There’s been tons of controversy surrounding the beauty industry and it’s lack of products for darker skin tones, but Kat Von D is proving that her cosmetics line simply won’t stand for that.

As a company known for its eccentric assortment of makeup, we should have guessed that Kat Von D would surprise us with yet another fabulously inclusive product line. We’ve loved her universally-complementary line of pigment-packed lipsticks, and then fell in love all over again when she revealed a collection of foundations containing 20 very different shades, but it’s her latest launch that has us rethinking what it means to have a diversity-friendly makeup collection available in stores.

Her newest eye product the Kat Von D Lock-It Color Correcting Eyeshadow Primer ($25), opens up a completely new frontier for primers. It offers not just one, but five widely-ranging shades to match numerous skin tones. In case you’re not impressed by just five colors, lets all keep in mind that for years eyeshadow primers have come in a whopping one, so-called “universal” shade.

While Urban Decay—another prominent brand who has dabbled in crafting more than one shade of eyeshadow primer—has created three shades as a way to dictate a specific use for each primer (like neutralizing redness or adding a bit of shimmer) Kat was able to create the first ever eyeshadow primers to color correct and prime eyelids using custom shades for every skin tone.

For now, the available shades include fair, light, medium, tan, and deep, but considering Kat’s penchant for variety, we have sneaking suspicion the line will eventually expand further. Kudos to Kat for pushing the beauty industry one step further towards complete diversity.
