We’ve written several tips on shaving—from how to get a close shave under your arms to skin shaving myths to the fact that shaving can increase infection…ahem, down there. But wouldn’t it be nice if we could skip all the cautionary steps and just get a smooth, nick-free shave with a razor?

That’s what the makers of the Skarp Laser Razor hope to accomplish. As the name suggests, their razor uses laser technology to give you a super close shave that’s also irritation-free—and it seems people are more than on-board with the idea. Their Kickstarter campaign has already raised more than $3.5 million.

If you’re curious what makes their laser different from other at-home hair removal devices like the Tria or No! No! Hair, it’s fairly simple. Those lasers penetrate the skin and target hair at the root to stop future hair growth, while this one works to only cut the hair close to the skin, so it’s more similar to your current shaving routine.

It might sound too good to be true, but we’re crossing our fingers on this because one of the founders of the Skarp Laser Razor, Morgan Gustavsson, also invented Intense Pulsed Light—the same technology used in many dermatologist’s offices for permanent hair removal today. So we’re betting he knows a thing or two about lasers and how to get rid of hair.

He says he had the idea for this razor years ago, but spent more than a decade investigating a wavelength that could cut through any hair color (in the past they could only cut through dark hair). He finally found it and wants to share what it can do.

The company says it still needs to go through more prototypes before The Skarp Laser Razor is perfect, but hopefully it will be available to the masses in the near future. To learn more, watch the video below:
