I love to gaze at runway makeup, but as a mom in my mid-30s, I admit, I rarely get the urge to actually try any of the edgier ideas we cover. There’s one exception though: two-toned lipstick, which we’ve seen models wear a few times in recent seasons past and which just popped up again at the fall 2015 MSGM show in Milan. Thanks to the following gorgeous close-up photos that makeup sponsor MAC just posted to Instagram, I’m lusting over this look like never before.

Makeup artist Lisa Butler used a lip brush to paint on MAC’s upcoming Retro Matte Liquid Lipcolour in pink and red shades to create this vivid ombre effect.

I just love the way the two colors clash and make the pigment all the more striking, yet the double-toned technique isn’t really noticeable until you look close up. (Plus, what a perfect compromise for the girl who can never decide between pink and red lipstick.) And while one can argue this is only for high-maintenance makeup wearers (read: NOT me), I can also see how it might not be the most impractical idea ever. Sure the color in the center probably wears off quicker, but you could just reapply that as needed without having to redo the whole outer color.

What do you think, dear Lipstick readers: Am I crazy for loving this makeup trend? Am I all alone in thinking it could work in real life? Have any of you actually tried two-toned lipstick before (my heroes if you have!)? Let’s discuss down below.
