OK, really, is there any hairstyle Taylor Swift doesn’t look good in? At the iHeartRadio Music Awards last night (where she won a whopping five awards), Swift demonstrated just how versatile her new bob is. Normally seen wearing her hair sleek and straight, Swift went for the coolest beachy, matte waves we’ve seen since, well, last week…but that’s beside the point.

The hairstyle, which was created by longtime hairstylist Jemma Muradian, was paired with neutral makeup and is much edgier than Swift’s usual old-Hollywood glamour. Which is to say it was on par with the rest of the looks on the red carpet yesterday.

Here’s how she’s been wearing it most recently:

And here it is in all its messy, wavy glory last night:

Want in on the style? Our biggest tip is to invest in a good texturizer (Oribe Dry Texturizing Spray is one of our all-time favorites) with light hold. It’ll give your hair that messy, lived-in look without coming off crunchy. Also, skip the curling iron and use a flat iron instead to add waves into your hair. Curling short hair with a straightener will prevent your hair from producing too-tight curls which can come off too severe for a bob-length cut. Once you wave your hair, spritz on the texturizer and scrunch with your fingers, pulling your hair away from your face to create volume along the bottom, similar to Swift’s.

We’ve reached out her stylist for an exact how-to, and will report back if we learn any other details. In the meantime, brush up on these celebrity hairstylist-approved tips for easily adding waves to any hair length using only a straightener.
