If you thought to yourself at your last trim, This haircut session is too tame. I need fire! And swords! And scissor finger-caps! book yourself a ticket to Spain, ’cause there’s a hairstylist there named Alberto Olmedo who will make all your circus-like hair-snipping dreams come true. Using tools like samurai swords and actual literal fire, he burns, slices, and carves hair into layers like, well, quite possibly no one because this sort of thing seems like it’d be hard to get salon insurance for.

In the clip below, he explains he came up with his unconventional techniques because “hairstylists always cut one side and then the other, and one side is always a bit different from the other.” How this is more precise exactly, he doesn’t quite go into, but he calls the method “mathematical.” That must be the “new math” all the kids are talking about, because this certainly never took place in our calculus classes.

This isn’t the first use of fire we’ve heard of in hair-shaping—Brazilians also use burning in the Velaterapia technique. But Olmedo’s method is a bit more theatrical in general. Watch his techniques in action in this video, and then imagine the show that would result if he ever got his hands on this family of ladies who have never cut their hair. Epic would have a new definition.

Mind-blowing, right? It’s almost too good to be true. Maybe we’re all getting trolled. Not that we’d be mad about it…
