1. Are you from Portland, Oregon?

I was born and raised just 130 miles up I-5 in Tacoma, WA.

I then went to undergrad at the University of Hawaii at Manoa, lived briefly in the Basque Country of Spain, then found my way down to PDX to attend Dental Hygiene school back in 2015.

I ultimately decided teeth were not my passion and fell in love with aesthetics, keeping me in Portland ever since!

2. What is an Advanced Aesthetician?

Portland Esthetician Hannah Scamehorn CAE Skin by LovelyA Certified Advanced Aesthetician goes through additional schooling and certifications in order to offer medically-deemed treatments, typically those that go to the dermal (middle) layer of skin.

3. Can you tell us a little bit about the treatments you offer at Skin by Lovely?

We offer medium-depth Chemical Peels, Microneedling with or without PRF, and Medical-Grade Skincare Consultations.

Both Chemical Peels and Microneedling are working on stimulating the fibroblasts in the dermal layer of the skin to help encourage an increase in collagen and elastin production. I love both treatments for different reasons— Chemical Peels are incredible at lifting out stubborn and deep hyperpigmentation, tightening and diminishing the appearance of pores, reducing texture, and plumping the skin.

Chemical Peel Treatment with with Hannah Scamehorn CAEMicroneedling is great at breaking up surface level hyperpigmentation, diminishing the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles, smoothing skin texture, reducing facial scars, and giving your skin a beautiful and healthy glow.

The power of Medical-Grade Skincare is an incredible tool to utilize when working to improve skin health. I always love to use my Dentist analogy: after a deep cleaning or teeth whitening, it is super important to continue to brush and floss your teeth in-between visits in order to maintain results— this goes for skincare as well!

It can be easy to get overwhelmed when deciding which products to purchase. I am here to take the guesswork out for you! Quality of ingredients, percentage of active ingredients used, and published studies proving the product’s efficacy are all factors I use to consider when curating regimens.

4. What is your favorite skincare product that Skin by Lovely offers?

Oh, I’m not sure I can pick just one!

Your skincare regimen is all for not if you are not capping off your AM routine with an SPF, so I guess I will start there!

Elta MD UV Clear is my go-to for sun protection— its oil-free formulation and inclusion of Niacinamide to support the skin’s barrier are two reasons it’s my current fave. It’s also a great SPF for those that despise the typical greasy SPF texture— none of that here!

Hannah Scamehorn Top Skincare Next in line would be Alastin’s Restorative Skin Complex, as its TriHex Technology is simply unrivaled. The patented peptides go into the skin’s ECM (extracellular matrix), clear out any cellular debris that may be clogging the works, strengthen the ECM back up, and begin to stimulate new and healthy collagen and elastin.

It’s actually the only product on the market that is PROVEN to significantly increase the snap-back in your skin. Not to mention it also boasts antioxidant protection and includes Silver Mushroom for extra hydration!

Last but certainly not least is Dewy Bean Dream, a plant-based retinol alternative for all my sensi-skin types. LILFOX utilizes the Dew Moth Bean, a Vitamin A rich legume, to help gently exfoliate, soften the appearance of fine lines, improve texture, hydrate, and plump the skin.

I know you only asked for one, but I could not live with any of these!

5. What do you love most about working at Skin by Lovely?

Where do I even begin?! ?

I’ve been with Skin by Lovely for four years now and can truly say I never see myself leaving. I can credit Skin by Lovely with so much of my personal and professional growth, and this mainly has to do with the incredible humans that operate behind the scenes here.

I marvel every day how incredible it is to have the opportunity to connect with so many people from the Portland Metro community that I wouldn’t typically get had I stayed in a desk job. To be able to share life with my patients, hear about major events going on in their lives, and be able to boost their confidence through improving the health of their skin— nothing can beat it!

It’s truly an honor to have so many beautiful humans trust me and my recommendations.

6. Why did you want to become an Advanced Aesthetician?

I had explored many career opportunities before arriving in aesthetics!

I initially attended the University of Hawaii to major in Marine Biology. (fun fact: I was a professional scuba diver in high school!)

After realizing that Marine Biology would not promise me a career of swimming with the dolphins, I pivoted to Poly Sci with my focus on International Non-Profit work in Basque Country, Spain. After two years of exploring the world of non-profit, I realized I preferred a more structured work environment. This led me to Dental Hygiene, where I quickly learned mouths are not for me! ??

Long story long, I was able to connect with a few aestheticians that were crushing it in the Portland community and hear their first-hand accounts of why they loved aesthetics. I attended Aesthetics Institute for over a year, where I quickly fell in love with learning about ingredients, treatments, and the ability to connect deeply with my patients.

I have always had an affinity for health and wellness, and with the skin being the window to what’s going on inside our bodies, it came full circle for me. I received my license in 2017 and continue to fall more in love with this field every day.

7. How would you describe your patient-care style?

Portland Microneedling Treatment with Hannah Scamehorn CAEMy patient-care style is definitely skin-health-focused.

There is no such thing as perfect skin— healthy skin still has imperfections like scarring, texture, and pores. Filters have altered our views of reality, and I love to educate my patients that if their skin is healthy, they’ll glow differently!

I will often ask my patients what they are currently doing for self-care, and 9 times out of 10, they respond with “this!”. You are not simply another patient to me, you are someone I will be working closely with for a minimum of 3 months, and it’s impossible not to develop a relationship with each of you!

8. What is something on your bucket list?

Going on a health and wellness retreat in either Sedona, AZ or somewhere in Greece or Italy! If you know me, you know I love my soundbaths, yoga, and breathwork— it would be a dream to do so in such a beautiful location!

9. How do you like to spend your time when you’re not at Skin by Lovely?

You can catch me at the local OrangeTheory Fitness, taking my sweet Aussie, Axel, for a long walk with my fiancé, or sneaking away to Central Oregon for the weekend!

10. What is one thing most people don’t know about you?

I am the shortest in my family at 5’8”! Everyone else is over 6 ft!
